Operations Manager (m/f)

Job Description

  • To coordinate and manage the manufacturing and service operations cost effectively, meet market competitive delivery times and quality requirements.

  • Ensure the agreed research and development projects for Industrial Deadweight Testers and ASL products meet the timeline and cost agreed with the CoE Calibration Technology.

  • Ensure stock and material is controlled and accounted for utilising WIKA UK’s guidelines and procedures.

  • To constantly evaluate and improve production control of instruments, service and calibrations. Maximise customer satisfaction throughout the operations.

  • Responsible for the sales and technical support for all export channels for DH Budenberg and ASL products and services.

  • Responsible for compliance with the QMS and H&S system ensuring continued adherence and action where necessary. 

  • Be proactive and actively contribute to strategic decisions such as budget planning, investments and production improvement.

  • Be responsible to the Irlam elements of the agreed budget for expense and capital.

  • Identify and manage implement of process improvements to maximise efficiency, increase productivity and improve quality.

  • Champion the Kaizen, lean and continuous improvement within the Irlam facility. Follow the culture of the WIKA Group and work with the WIKA UK Quality and CI Manager.

  • With the Supply Chain and Production Manager develop the purchasing policy using “make or buy” analysis to ensure procurement of goods at best price, highest quality, least impact on stock and on time.

  • Responsible for all day to day people management. With WIKA UK HR, implement the training and development of employees and engage the workforce to achieve the company vision and goals.

  • Follow the strategic direction from Centre of Excellence for Calibration Technology, WIKA Germany.  

  • To manage special projects as and when required.

Requested Profile

  • Must be educated to HNC / HND or degree level within an engineering capacity.

  • Must have extensive experience working in a management role within a reputable manufacturing / mechanical engineering organisation.

  • Must be able to demonstrate above average performance and improvements being responsible for purchasing, cost reduction and supplier management.

  • Must have experience being responsible for large projects i.e. new product development.

  • Must have experience in championing continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Must have experience in analysing and taking ownership of P&L and budget tasks.

  • Must be a team player and have the ability to motivate, inspire, mentor and develop a team of people.

  • Must demonstrate strong leadership skills such as integrity, honesty, humility and co-operation.

  • Must have an open, honest and positive demeanour but also have the ability to be assertive when needed.

  • Must be enthusiastic and self-motivated.

  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to communicate confidently with both internal and external customers and suppliers.

  • Must be disciplined and skilled in time management.

  • Must be able to have a proactive, can do attitude.

  • Must be willing to offer flexibility when workload permits which could include longer hours and overnight stays away from home.

  • Must have the ability to be able to effectively prioritise and manage workloads as well as delegate appropriately.

  • Live within reasonable commuting distance.

REPORTING TO: Calibration Technology Centre of Excellence Manager (Germany) with support from the Managing Director of WIKA Instruments Ltd.

Responsible for managing and improving all activities and functions associated with Industrial Deadweight Tester and ASL Production, Supply Chain, Sales & Technical Support, Product Development and the UKAS Laboratory within the Irlam Facility, UK.
